Hyundai A-League 06-07 Season Round 1 Wrap-up

The Hyundai A-League's second season has kick-offed with an interesting first round of matches. On Friday night to start the season was Melbourne Victory hosting Adelaide United. In the previous seven pre-season and regular matches between the sides, Melbourne had failed to score every single time let alone win. But with a new trio of Brazillians, Melbourne was able to break the trend with a 2 - 0 victory over Adelaide, the goals through a Kevin Muscat penalty - one that had been the result of some Alessandro magic - and Brazillian substitue Claudinho.

The season continued with Queensland Roar up against Perth Glory. The match looked to be deadlocked for a 0 - 0 result but with 10 minutes remaining like our Socceroos, Queensland were able to score three goals through newcomers Simon Lynch, Dario Vidosic and Stuart McLaren to soar to the top of the A-League ladder.

New Zealand continued the defensive efforts that had seen them through a improved Pre-Season Cup campagin to hold onto a o - o draw with Newcastle Jets at home. Sydney started their premiership defence with a average performance against last year's finalist: Central Coast Mariners with a 1 - 0 win.
